Spring planting season is just around the corner. If you haven’t amended your garden(s), now is the time. Especially if you are doing an all-natural garden. Consider doing a soil test to determine what your garden really needs. Wells Brothers now does soil testing. If you decide to have your soil tested here are some things to consider. Soil samples should be taken at a depth of four inches. If you have an area that is doing well and another that is below par, taking samples from both places will give results to compare. The sample should be dry. If the sample is wet, then we need to dry it and that can take a day or two. Keep good records on where the sample(s) where taken. It’s ok to label them #1 and #2 as long as you know where they came from. Come on in and get the details about our soil testing program.
The results of these tests will help you chose the right amendments and amounts to add. The most common amendments are compost, peat moss, coconut fiber, perlite, vermiculite, expanded shale, molasses, sulfur, lava, green sand and of course fertilizer. The best yields will come from the garden with the most complete soil. As a side note we do have all of these in stock including a wide selection of fertilizers. A little preparation before you plant, will yield noticeable results later in the season.
