Two things that are all the rage in herbal/holistic supplement world are hemp and CBD (cannabinoid) oil. Both come from the Cannabis Sativa plant aka “marijuana”. Before I go any farther, neither hemp nor CBD only products will get you high. The high part comes from THC. So, here we go: hemp seed oil is from the seeds only and has very little if any CBD’s. CB1 receptors are mainly in the brain and deal with coordination, pain, movement, emotions, appetite, and a host of other functions. CB2 receptors are more common in the immune system. It is now believed that CBD oil directs the body to use its own cannabinoids. Some of the things CBD oil has shown promise in, is the treatment of epilepsy, pain relief, anxiety and type 1 diabetes through its anti-inflammatory properties.
Dogs also have CB1 and CB2 receptors. Hemp and CBD oils appear to have the same effect on dogs as it does in humans. In most cases, body weight comes into play on dosage. Most of the information (for dogs and humans) I found comes from companies selling it. So treat these products like any herbal/holistic supplement. Follow the directions to the letter and observe the results. If it works, keep going. If it doesn’t, stop.
