The first of April is the start of sod season. Laying sod is like hanging wallpaper, except it’s outside, horizontal and alive! The tip to successful sod is making the right preparations. Opinions vary on soil prep but removing the dead layer of grass and any foreign matter such as sticks, rocks and concrete is a must. Then mix a layer of compost mixed with soil. Level the mixture and add a small amount of all natural fertilizer. You are now ready to lay the sod, roll and water. The next question is do I really need to roll it? If you are doing a couple of sheets, no. if you are doing a couple of pallets, yes. Sod should be watered daily for the first couple of weeks. After three weeks, it is normal maintenance.
